Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian will take part in the multilateral meeting on Syria due to take place in Vienna on November 14, the Iranian Embassy in Moscow told TASS on Friday.

“At the multilateral meeting in Vienna, Iran will be represented at the level of deputy foreign minister,” the embassy said. “This is due to busy schedule of Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif,” it added.
Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that “the Russian delegation heading for a ministerial meeting in Vienna hopes for such collective work.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to take part in the meeting on Syria in Vienna on November 14, Zakharova added.

Russia “stresses the necessity to adhere to the agreements reached at the first Vienna meeting on October 30 that the main aim of this format is providing support for establishing dialogue between Syrians, while all external players that have some influence on the situation will participate on equidistant basis,” Zakharova added.

The four-party meeting between Russia, the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Turkey on settling conflict in Syria was held in the Austrian capital on October 23. On October 30 the discussion was joined by several other players - 19 countries and international organizations in total. After the meeting, the document was adopted on the principles of settlement in Syria. The document confirms the importance of preserving Syria’s integrity and its state institutions, destroying the Islamic State terrorist organization and other extremist groups, supporting Syrian refugees and the countries that host them. The future of the country should be defined by Syrians. The authorities and opposition will form a transitional government, adopt constitution and hold elections.
